A 31-year-old man and 89-year-old woman who met in Los Angeles have become roommates — and best friends.
The odd couple first met when Chris Salvatore, an actor and singer, moved into a West Hollywood apartment across the hall from Norma Cook’s four years ago.
Salvatore described the moment they met as life-changing.
They quickly became friends — and then unlikely roommates — when Salvatore learned that his elder pal’s health was deteriorating, and that she would require 24-hour live-in care.Salvatore created a GoFundMe page to help defray Cook’s medical costs and pay for professional care, before coming up with a better idea: He asked Cook if she'd like to move in with him, and she accepted.
He’s become surrogate family to Cook, who has no relatives living in California, and doesn’t have a grandson.According to Salvatore, Cook is “friendly,” “sassy,” and “full of life.”
He has described the time they spent together as “filled with so much joy and laughter.”
Salvatore described voting with Cook as one of his happiest moments.
Despite doctors’ warnings that Cook might not live until Christmas, the pair hosted a joint holiday party and created a Christmas card together last year.

“I got the amazing experience to accompany her to vote,” he wrote on the GoFundMe page that as of Sunday, had raised more than $70,000.
