A 22-year-old man, Ayobami Akindele, who allegedly raped his co-tenant’s 14-year-old daughter, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, a co-tenant with the mother of the victim, at No.28, Apesin St., Mushin, a Lagos suburb, is facing a charge of rape.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Ajayi Emmanuel, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 23 at No. 28, Apesin St., Mushin.
According to the prosecutor, the accused forcefully had carnal knowledge of the minor.
Emmanuel said the accused lured the girl into the bathroom and had sexual intercourse with her.
He said the girl narrated everything that the accused did to her to her mother immediately she returned from work.
“The accused was arrested and handed over to the police,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Section 258 prescribes life imprisonment for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and the magistrate, Mr E.A. Azeez, granted him bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs) for legal advice.
Azeez, however, adjourned the case until May 10.
