Madonna celebrated Mother's Day with Instagram photos of her six-strong brood and a sweet tribute to her own mother, who died when the superstar-to-be was five.

The Bay City-born 58-year-old uploaded a grainy photo of her mother, also called Madonna, cradling the Material Girl when the latter was a baby or toddler.
'The Greatest Accomplishment of my life is to be the Mother I never knew!' wrote the Papa Don't Preach singer in her caption, adding a heart emoji before continuing.

Happy Mother's Day to my Mama whom I hope is watching over me and. to all who have nurtured and suffered and experienced the Joy and sacrifice of Motherhood!'

The pop diva's Mother's Day posts had begun with a close-up photo of her 20-year-old daughter Lourdes Leon, sired by Madonna's 50-year-old ex-beau Carlos Leon.

'My Love!' and a heart emoji comprised the Beautiful Stranger singer's caption to the photo of her daughter, in which Lourdes was wearing massive hoop earrings, Daily,ail reports.

'My Champion!', as well as three soccer ball emojis and an emoji of an arrow-pierced heart, captioned Madge's next photo, which was of her 11-year-old son David Banda.

She'd adopted David Banda from Malawi in 2006 when he was only a year old and she was with her second husband Guy Ritchie, whom she'd married back in 2000.

Madonna's since adopted three daughters from Malawi: 11-year-old Mercy, brought home in 2009, and four-year-old twins Esther and Stella, adopted this February.
