Jilted husband guns down ex-wife, son and 10 others at New Year's Eve party

A violent ex-husband gunned down twelve people at a New Year’s Eve party, including his own young son.

Sidnei Ramis de Araújo, aged 46, had recently split from from Isamara Filier, aged 41, and entered the party in a rage.Just before midnight he jumped over a wall, stormed the family home and shot at guests, armed with several guns at the house party in the Brazilian city of Campinas.

Fifteen people were wounded, twelve of them fatally, including his ex-wife and his eight-year-old son, João Victor.

According to Metro UK , the killer, a lab technician, reportedly shouted at his wife for taking custody of their son, spraying bullets at guests before turning the gun on himself.Neighbours who heard the gunshots thought they were fireworks at first, Globo reported.

They realised the true horror of it when one of the injured guests appeared asking for help, covered in blood. He rushed in calling help, help,’ a witness told the channel.
‘At the time we did not know if it was a robber, if he was armed. Then my uncle grabbed him, saw that he had no gun, that he really was only really hurt.’
Two of the men managed to survive by locking themselves in a bathroom, out of sight of the gunman.
Police investigating said they found a tape in Araújo’s car where he recorded himself apologising for something he was about to do.
