Mother And 5-Months old Baby Remanded In jail for Theft


A businesswoman, Uche Portia, with her five-month-old baby, have been remanded in prison by an Ile-Ife Magistrate court pending the perfection of her bail condition.

The 29-year old mom is facing a charge of fraud and stealing.

The magistrate, Mrs. Dorcas Ajiboye, granted the accused N200,000 bail, with one surety in like sum.

Her bail terms also includes the surety having to swear to an affidavit of means and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

In addition, the surety must produce three-year tax clearance and provide two recent passport photographs.

Prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court the accused committed the offences on July 16 at Igboye House, Ile-Ife. He said she fraudulently obtained N335,000 from the complainant, Mrs. Oluwaseyi Sijuwade, with a promise to supply her 50 bags of rice, but failed to do so.

The case has been adjourned until September 1 for hearing.
