A woman who scalded her sleeping boyfriend’s face and body with hot oil after an argument has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. announced the sentencing of Myeshia Hawkins-Taylor on Tuesday. She pleaded guilty to attempted murder last month.

The violence erupted on Jan. 30, 2016. They had been living together since August 2015. But there were problems and Adams was accused of being unfaithful. A verbal argument took place and Hawkins-Taylor demanded money because of his affairs. At some point, Adams left the room and went to sleep.

While Adams slept, Hawkins-Taylor poured burning hot oil over his face and arms and then began stabbing and cutting him with a kitchen knife. The cuts to his stomach were so bad, court documents state his intestines were protruding.

Hawkins-Taylor also repeatedly stabbed the badly burned man when he woke up and tried to escape — then waited over a day to call 911.

Doctors had to place the victim in a medically induced coma. He was hospitalized for two months, the Associated Press reports.
