Madrid bans manspreading on public transport

The Municipal Transportation Company in Madrid has banned manspreading on public transit.

The transit agency has posted signs on buses, trains and metros that warn men to take up only one seat, instead of stretching their legs out and broaching their neighbors’ space.“

The new information icon indicates the prohibition of taking a seating position that bothers other people,” the agency said in a statement.
“It’s to remind transport users to maintain civic responsibility and respect the personal space of everyone on board.”

The ban comes several years after New York launched a similar effort.
