The man who was said to have committed the crime sometime in 2016, gave the Almajiri boy, Umar Ali, Forty Naira (N40) and instructed him not to disclose the matter to anyone.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Haruna Mohammed, a Superintendent of Police, in a statement in Bauchi on Saturday said that the incident was not reported to the police until May 17, 2017, at about 4pm.
According to Punch, he said after the incident, the victim’s stomach got swollen adding that several efforts to treat the boy at the hospital failed as there was no improvement in his health.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident happened sometime in 2016 allegedly perpetrated by a nail-cutter whose identity is yet to be ascertained,” he stated.
“Since then, the matter was not reported to the Police. The Victim developed a strange illness and his stomach got swollen. He was taken to General Hospital Darazo for treatment but his condition did not improve and now referred to ATBU Teaching Hospital Bauchi for further Medical attention.”
The Police Spokesman said the Commissioner of Police in the State directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police state criminal investigation department to take over the case and ensure that the culprit was arrested and brought to book.
